Gulzar Misinterpreted

BombaySuper_Gulzar

Gulzar has been writing songs for Bollywood since forever. And like him, his lines too are timeless. There have been numerous attempts to decode his words and understand the underlying meaning. You will find several well researched blogs and books which try to explain most of his songs. But only the man himself can tell us what exactly he wants to say through them. This is one more interpretation (possibly misinterpretation) of some of his lines.

Gulzar: “Aur mere ik khat main lipatee rat padee hai, Woh rat bujha do, mera woh saman lauta do” (Mera kuch samaan, Ijaazat)

Interpretation: Dude delete my text about the one night stand and also return my PS controller.

Gulzar: “Tera nasheela badan baahon ne chhoda nahin, Aankhein to kholi magar, sapna wo toda nahin” (Asoka, Raat ka nasha abhi)

Interpretation: You have a hangover. I think we are in Inception.

Gulzar: “Sar Chadhi Hai Khumaari, Aur Jamin Dolati Hai, Bejubaan Daastaan Yeh, Raatbhar Bolati Hain” (No Smoking, Phoonk de)

Interpretation: This shiz is real bro. We will be stoned all night.

Gulzar: “Lau ko chhu ke laut aaya jo, woh parwana kya hoga” (Kya hoga, Dedh Ishqiya)

Interpretation: He’s done his engineering undergrad in India. He can do anything.

Gulzar: “Darling, khadim hoon shehzadi ko tayaar karne do” (Doosri darling, 7 Khoon Maaf)

Interpretation: I am the fashion designer stereotype from Bollywood movies.

Gulzar: “Chhota sa saya tha, aakhon main aaya tha, humne do boondon se mann bhar liye” (Aye zindagi, Sadma)

Interpretation: I had a nightmare where I took polio drops to get high.

Gulzar: “Naam gum jayega, chehra yeh badal jayega. Meri Aawaz hi pehchaan hai, gar yaad rahe” (Naam gum jayega, Kinara)

Interpretation: I could be a spy, only if I didn’t sound like Lata Mangeshkar.

Gulzar:  “Jo nahi kiya karke dekhna, saans rok ke mar ke dekhna” (Khamakha, Matru Ki Bijlee ka Mandola)

Interpretation: You need to get a life
