The Modern Dior Girl

Were we owners of a private jet, we would be in Paris seated in the front row wearing the ubiquitous sun glasses, exchanging air kisses with the person beside, try celebrity spotting and have a zoned in look when the models sashay down the runaway for perhaps one of the biggest shows of the year and what a swanky show it was. Knocked our socks err pumps off. Yes, we’re talking about the Dior show at Musee Rodin, which we couldn’t go due our oh so busy schedule.

This was a show that’s catapulted Raf Simmons to the limelight. Gone were the dreamy feminine ball gowns and instead the Dior gal was dressed in uber modern clothes that meant business with pops of bright colors. Aptly titled “City Light” the show began with corset laced long cashmere coats followed by double breasted trouser suits with the models toting colorful coats in ochre, teal, electric blues. The spicy mix of masculine with feminine played with pinstripes and burst of colors brought our attention to the tasteful cuts and stylish silhouettes.

Models fitted in layered cocktail dresses shaded in dynamic blocks of color per say summer yellow off shoulder dress worn over a slim off white dress or fuchsia over bright bottle green save for the diamante embroidery on the thigh. All this while walking down the runaway to music that sounded remarkably close to a rave. While craning our neck to catch a glimpse of a known face, we spotted Rihanna who was channeling a va va voom sexy French maid in a plunging red fur coat and garter stockings accessories with pearl choker and leather gloves. Damn, we digress. The best part of the show came in when the Dior gals walked the runaway in asymmetrical quilted dresses, a deep red and blush pink one was quite an eye catcher.

With the Oscars on Sunday, we wonder who would do step out in Dior and steal in the limelight. That said we wouldn’t mind getting one or two for ourselves provided we have an eye bulging bank balance.
